Johnson and Urban was selected to join the A/E team to design a new, mixed-use affordable housing development on a prominent site in Newburgh, NY in order to bring new life and economic activity to the city. The site is characterized by existing three-story multifamily residential buildings, an armory across Broadway, and a mid-century building where the City's DMV operates.
Newburgh Mid-Broadway Mixed-Use development will contain 91 affordable family housing units in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The ground floor will contain commercial space, laundry room with access to outdoor seating and children's play area, mail room and lobby, as well as a multi-purpose room for residents. Gross sqaure footage of the building is 108,000sf
The building is designed to be near net-zero energy building, and will include numerous green initiatives including a geothermal system, photovoltaic panel system at the main roof, sun-shading devices, a high-efficiency HVAC system and is designed as a LEED for Homes certified project.
The Project will also apply for the NYSERDA Multifamily Building Performance Program for New Construction, incorporating at least 20 % energy reduction and energy efficiency options into the building's design to fulfill the ENERGY STAR guidelines and to the LEED for Homes Mid-rise Certification Program with the U.S. Green Building Council
